Blue and Gold Banquet Rentals Westwood MA: A Venue Shortlist for Cub Scout Packs
Answer: For a Westwood Blue and Gold banquet, the realistic rooms are the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church on High Street, Powissett Lodge at Hale (posted capacity 100), or an elementary school cafeteria booked through the district's Building Use office. The library Community Room is a poor match because its policy bars private parties. Lock the room first, then size tables, chairs and one or two activity pieces to the head count. For a February quote, phone (508) 203-5946 with the room and the date.

Blue and Gold is the Cub Scout birthday dinner. Scouting America describes it as a celebration of the movement's founding on February 8, 1910, and says it usually takes the place of a pack's February meeting. Ranks get awarded, and fifth graders often hold their Arrow of Light ceremony before moving up to a troop.
In Westwood, Pack 1 serves kindergarten through grade 5 as a family pack, and its regular pack meeting falls on the second Wednesday of each month, 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Committees that want a bigger room for February usually start looking around now. Here is how four real Westwood spaces compare.
The four rooms side by side
| Room | Posted size | Food setup | Banquet fit | First call |
| First Baptist Fellowship Hall, 808 High St | Not posted | Full kitchen | Strong; the pack's chartered home | Church office, 781-461-1730 |
| Powissett Lodge at Hale, 80 Carby St | 100 guests | Kitchen, limited prep | Strong for a weekend afternoon | Hale, 781-326-1770 |
| Elementary cafeteria or gym | Ask the district | Ask the district | Good for a large pack | Building Use, 781-326-7500 |
| Library Community Room, 660 High St | 75 guests | Kitchen for light refreshments | Weak; private parties are not allowed | Library, 781-326-7562 |
Option 1: Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church
Pack 1's sign-up instructions list the unit under First Baptist Church of Westwood, and Troop 3 meets in the same building on Thursday evenings. The church describes its Fellowship Hall as having a full kitchen, with a courtyard path to the Reception Room, accessible buildings and ample parking.
The church does not post rental terms, and its office keeps appointment hours of 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM on weekdays, so call before lunch. Ask about outlets, a load-in door and how late you can stay.
What fits a hall like this: oversized tabletop games that keep kids busy between dinner and awards. Jumbo Yahtzee, Jumbo Tetris and Jumbo Guess Who each list at $40 for one day, and none of them needs power.
Option 2: Powissett Lodge at Hale
Hale is the nonprofit outdoor center on Carby Street where scout groups can also reserve campsites. Its rentals page lists Powissett Lodge for private events at up to 100 guests, with a fireplace, cathedral ceiling, hardwood floors, a kitchen, two bathrooms, a deck and an accessible ramp. A private-event booking includes one site visit before the day and a five-hour block.
Hale's FAQ says it does not provide event planning and has limited food preparation space. That makes a Hot Dog Cart ($75, cart only, cooks up to 8 hot dogs at a time on its roller) a practical add for a pack that skips catering. For a lumberjack touch that suits the setting, the inflatable Timber Axe Throw ($250) needs a 9 x 12 ft footprint and stands 10 ft tall. Ask Hale about outlet locations during the site visit.
The woods get dark early. Hebcal lists a 5:06 PM sunset for Westwood on Saturday, February 6, 2027, so an afternoon banquet should plan to wrap up in daylight or post a volunteer along the walkway.
Option 3: an elementary school cafeteria or gym
Westwood has four elementary schools: Downey, Martha Jones, Pine Hill and Sheehan. Outside groups request space through the district's Building Use program, run from the district office at 220 Nahatan Street. The School Committee has set building-use fees for fiscal years 2026 through 2028, so ask for the current schedule along with the paperwork.
Ask the office whether it wants an insurance certificate for equipment brought into the building. AJT can provide additional insured certificates. Put the request in when you reserve.
A gym lets you stage an entrance. The Inflatable Tunnel ($200, 16.5 x 10 ft, 11 ft tall) gives each Arrow of Light scout a moment in the spotlight on the way to the awards table. Pair it with the Lucky Ring Toss ($250) for younger dens. Check ceiling height with our school gym sizing guide.
Option 4: why the library Community Room is a pass
The Westwood Public Library seats 75 in its first-floor Community Room, but its meeting room policy says the space may not be used for social activities or private parties, and every meeting must be open to the public. Open flames, including lit candles, are banned in the building, and decorations must stay on tables or easels.
A free, public "join Scouting" information night could qualify, since library rules allow civic and educational programs. Requests go in 3 days to 3 months ahead and need approval from library administration.
Picking a February 2027 date
Scouting's anniversary, February 8, lands on a Monday in 2027. The pack's usual second Wednesday is February 10, which a published 2026-27 district calendar marks as an early-release day. February vacation runs the 15th through the 19th, so the first weekend of the month, February 6 or 7, catches families before they travel.
Snow is the wild card. If a storm is coming, you make the weather call by 8 AM on banquet day; our weather and cancellation policy spells out the options.
From head count to rental order
Start with scouts, then multiply. If 30 scouts each bring two family members, you are seating 90. Planning on six adults per 6-foot table, that is 15 tables.
That order adds up to $1,355 using one-day prices posted on our product pages on November 4, 2026. Your written booking quote is the number to budget from.
